Framed artwork by local artists hanging along the coffee shop wall

The vibe

Same owner, same shopping center, same welcome since 2000.

Slava took over the Coffee Grinder in 2000 and has been behind the counter ever since. Same shopping center, same low prices, a long list of coffees, plus beer and wine for the evening crowd.

If you're new, you'll be welcomed with a smile. If you've been before, you'll be called by name, and maybe teased about your haircut. That's why we don't have customers, we have regulars.

The playlist changes with the crowd, the walls are covered in work by local artists, and the tables fill with students, night owls, longtime Baymeadows regulars and a good share of the international crowd.

And be sure to look for Slava. He will be the man with a coffee in his hand, and a smile on his face.

“More places like this make a city a city.”

Slava is from Bosnia, where coffee is something you sit down for. That idea still runs the shop.

“In my culture, we never had to-go cups. There is more of a social element to coffee.”

“It is not a European coffeehouse, it is universal.”

Art on every wall

Original work by Jacksonville artists covers the shop, and it changes as new artists come through. First visit? Give yourself 20 minutes to walk the walls.
